A House Designed for Drought

A team of ��С�� students are tackling the California drought through innovative housing design with their entry for the U.S. Department of Energy’s 2017 Solar Decathlon.

The design focuses on cutting typical residential water use in half while maintaining the same level of comfort at an affordable price.

The Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art at the ��С��, Davis, will open its doors to the public for the first time Sunday, Nov. 13, with a community street fair and party starting at 10 a.m. and grand opening at noon.

Construction is nearing completion on the Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art, a contemporary art museum set amid the expansive views of California’s Central Valley and surrounding farmlands. At the grand opening on Nov. 13, visitors will experience a new form of museum architecture, one achieved by integrating outdoors and indoors, blurring the usual hierarchical relationship between exhibition and teaching spaces, that furthers the museum’s educational mission.

��С�� to Compete in 2017 Solar Decathlon

��С�� students will again compete in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Solar Decathlon in 2017, the federal agency announced today.

The ��С�� team took home a first place win for affordability and commuting at the 2015 Decathlon held in Irvine this past October, where Team Aggie Sol showcased its zero net energy house designed for farmworkers.

In name, the first buildings constructed at the University Farm in 1907 sounded like facilities that might have been found on a dairy or county fairground: the creamery, the livestock judging pavilion and two cottages.
