William Garrity Named University Librarian and Vice Provost of Digital Scholarship

William Garrity, deputy university librarian and the library’s chief operating officer, has been selected as the next university librarian and vice provost of digital scholarship for ��С��. Garrity, who has served as interim university librarian since July 2023, will officially start on May 15.

Roberto C. Delgadillo was a librarian at ��С�� for 17 years. Chester O. “Chet” McCorkle Jr. was an agricultural economist, a 40-year member of the faculty who also served as vice chancellor and UC vice president.

University Librarian and Vice Provost Smith Announces Retirement

The Office of the Provost released this announcement today (Oct. 11):

MacKenzie Smith has announced she will retire as University Librarian and Vice Provost of Digital Scholarship at the end of June 2023, after more than a decade at ��С�� and nearly 40 years in academic research libraries.

UC Library Search Wins Sautter Award for IT Innovation

The UC libraries’ project to consolidate the 10 previously independent campus library systems into a single, shared online catalog — UC Library Search — received a silver Larry L. Sautter Award for Innovation in Information Technology.

Open Access: UC Forges New Agreements With IEEE and Nature

The ��С�� on Wednesday (July 27) announced two new open access publishing agreements.

The first supports open access publishing with the technical professional organization IEEE, which is among the largest publishers of UC research. The other is an extension of UC’s 2020 agreement with Springer Nature that adds funding support for open access publishing in the prestigious Nature journals; previously only titles in the Springer portfolio were eligible.

Colby E. “Babe” Slater ’17 was the first Aggie alumnus to win Olympic gold, a member of the Cal Aggie Athletics Hall of Fame and the International Rugby Hall of Fame.
