UPDATED: Wireless System Gets Temporary Fix

Updated 6 p.m. Feb. 21: In an email just received, as a follow-up to Friday's message about intermittent wireless connectivity issues across the Davis campus, Information and Educational Technology, or IET, says it worked with its vendor to install a temporary fix Friday afternoon and that the network was "working as expected at this time." IET continues to watch the network closely, said the email, sent on behalf of Viji Murali, chief information officer and vice provost, IET; and Neeraj Chauhan, associate CIO for Enterprise Infrastructure Services.

IET Team Behind Project to Help Syrian Refugees Reclaim Right to Education

A team from Information and Educational Technology is behind a very human project that launches this week to help Syrian refugees in Lebanon reclaim their right to education.

Web developers did the custom programming for the Article 26 Backpack, a cloud-based platform to help refugees document and share their educational credentials.

Keith David Watenpaugh, a professor in the College of Letters and Science and director of the Backpack project, is in Lebanon to help 300 to 400 refugees set up virtual “backpacks” June 15 to July 3.

Banner is Back in Service

Vice Chancellor Adela de la Torre and CIO-Vice Provost Viji Murali sent this message to the campus community this morning (Oct. 11).

Campus community,

We are writing to update you on the Banner service. As we communicated yesterday (Oct. 10), the technical team performed continual health checks on the system and worked diligently to get Banner back into production. We are pleased to report that Banner is back in service as of this morning, including the services that depend on Banner for data, such as myucdavis, SISWeb and SISDocs.

Update 8:30 p.m. Oct. 10: IET reports that the technical teams continue to make progress on restoring service functionality, and that restoration of the Banner service is still on track for Wednesday morning (Oct. 12).

Campus Message Regarding Banner System

Update 1 p.m. Oct. 8: IET is now estimating that it will bring Banner back online the morning of Monday (Oct. 10). This revised timeline comes after IET sent the results of overnight (Friday-Saturday) health checks to the vendor, and the vendor’s analysis revealed more errors. They’ve been repaired, but due to these errors, the vendor recommended additional health scans to ensure data integrity. Due to the large size of the data files, the scanning is expected to last until Sunday (Oct. 9).

UPDATED: SmartSite Remains Offline

Update 1:30 p.m. May 23 from IET's TechNews:

Scriba, which hosts the SmartSite learning management system for ��С��, missed its deadline of restoring the service by 11 a.m. today after taking it offline late on May 20 for emergency maintenance.

As of 1:30 p.m. today, Scriba had not said when it expects SmartSite to be restored. ��С�� is pressing the company for answers, including when it will implement its backup restoration plans if the outage continues.
