So Much Good News, On Campus and Off!

A bald eagle that was brought to the °×С½ãÍõÖÐÍõ¿ª½±½á¹û School of Veterinary Medicine’s in February after she was hit by a truck in Shasta County has been released into the wild. Peydro leaving the °×С½ãÍõÖÐÍõ¿ª½±½á¹û Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital.Officers from the Woodland, °×С½ãÍõÖÐÍõ¿ª½±½á¹û and Twin Cities police departments gathered Monday (June 6) as Peydro, a Woodland police dog, was released from the °×С½ãÍõÖÐÍõ¿ª½±½á¹û Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. Peydro had undergone surgery and received care for spinal and facial injuries suffered when he was accidentally hit by a car on May 28 while pursuing a suspect. Veterinary neurosurgeons placed two pins in Peydro’s vertebrae to stabilize the spinal injury and repaired his facial wounds.  He goes home now to finish recuperating with his handler, officer Juan Barerra. The Foothills K9 Association provided a ramp and an orthopedic bed for Peydro. — Pat Bailey

Innovation takes center stage at Engineering Design Showcase

 

The °×С½ãÍõÖÐÍõ¿ª½±½á¹û College of Engineering presented its largest-ever on Thursday (June 2) in The Pavilion, featuring more than 170 student teams (comprising more than 700 students altogether) in all engineering disciplines. The annual showcase demonstrates the culmination of many years of study for engineering undergraduates, reflective of the hands-on collaborative learning opportunities available at the college. — Video by Christopher Nicolini/°×С½ãÍõÖÐÍõ¿ª½±½á¹û

New Campus Store opens its doors

After months of construction and a temporary home for textbook sales, °×С½ãÍõÖÐÍõ¿ª½±½á¹û again has a permanent bookstore. The newly named Campus Store opened in the Memorial Union on Monday (June 6), featuring a new look, seismic renovations, fitting rooms and a place to pick up or return orders from Amazon. Despite the finals week opening, business was brisk at the store on its first day; a grand opening celebration will be held in the fall. — Cody Kitaura
